As a side note, I replaced my stock head bolts recently and torqued them down to 45 ft lbs (per Mickey's advice) and they seem to be working just fine like that.

Hello, I have an intermittent problem with my 2002 KVF650. Shortly after starting up the engine and 3-4 minutes of idling time, the engine just die from lack of fuel. There's no way to start it up again. If I manually dump some fuel in the carburetor it will run a bit and die again.Prairie 650 backfiring problem. I have an 03 that has backfired into the airbox since day one. I have rejetted up to 142 145 and shimmed the needles with 2 shims each and its better but it runs rich. I am about ready to get rid of it if i cant figure it out soon. The dealer says its supposed to do that.Remove Airbox (2 bolts, and 8 screws at top of carb) Loosen Intake boot clamps. Remove coolant, fuel, and drain lines from carbs. Lift carbs, remove 1 screw from each choke cable that screws into the carb housing, not the cable to bracket screw.
